ATTICA, N.Y. — As people prepare for a feast on Thanksgiving leaders at area food pantries and some politicians are raising concerns about federal budget cuts affecting SNAP benefits.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer was in Attica, in Wyoming County, for one such "food-focused" press conference on Wednesday.

Just a couple of weeks after the federal government shutdown ended, Schumer — who is the Senate minority leader — came to a food pantry to say that he is introducing legislation to try to restore $197 billion worth of SNAP benefits, which he says were cut from federal budget last summer by Republicans in Congress and President Donald Trump.
