It appears Craig Conroy won’t be a lame-duck general manager much longer.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman is reporting that the Calgary Flames are nearing a contract extension with the 54-year-old GM.
Conroy entered the season with just one year remaining on his contract with the club after being named general manager on May 23, 2023.
He has overseen a Flames club in transition since then. During his first year in charge, the Flames finished 11th overall in the Western Conference with 81 points. They exceeded expectations last season by finishing with 96 points, although they just barely missed the playoffs.
This season, they’ve been one of the worst teams in the NHL.
