A man fatally shot Nov. 23 in Kent has been identified as George Herbert Mattison.

Mattison, 79, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Nov. 26 report by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled the death a homicide.

Mattison was shot at about 8:46 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at the James Street Park and Ride lot, 900 W. James St., just east of the accesso ShoWare Center and east of Highway 167.

Officers were dispatched about about 8:46 p.m. to the parking lot after reports of sounds of a firearm being discharged, according to a Monday, Nov. 24 Kent Police news release. The initial caller said they heard several gunshots followed by a few more, and then the sound of a vehicle leaving quickly.
