COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On base at Fort Jackson, the annual Thanksgiving meal was served Wednesday afternoon. Staff prepared enough food for 12,000 people, including current soldiers in training, retirees, service members, veterans and their families.

Soldiers marched one by one into one of six dining halls on base at Fort Jackson. Inside that hall, food to feed a whole army.

Staff told WIS more than 2,000 pounds of ham, 3,000 pounds of turkey and 700 pounds of shrimp were made ready to be served.

“The trainees really get a lot out of it, sort of kind of a relaxed moment in their training period, they get to come in here, have a great meal, socialize and gather, it’s their Army family”, said William Shoaf, the Command Sergeant Major.
