Sayreville is being sued in federal court after the borough’s Planning Board denied site plan approvals for the construction of a mosque, according to the complaint field in New Jersey district court.

In a 75-page complaint filed on Nov. 21, Masjid Sadar, Inc. and Shameer Properties claim that Sayreville officials discriminated against Masjid Sadar, an Islamic religious organization, and Shameer, the property owner, and violated their civil rights by maintaining “burdensome, discriminatory and unreasonable land use regulations and conduct” that led to board’s denial of the construction of a mosque.
