There are often fireworks when Nevada and UNLV play each other in football, and Saturday's game should continue that theme.
In addition to state bragging rights in the intense rivalry, both teams have more to play for. Nevada will try to end its season on a three-game winning streak while the Rebels are hoping to earn a trip to the Mountain West Conference title game
Saturday's 50th Battle for the Fremont Cannon is actually the 51st time Nevada and UNLV play each other in football. The Fremont Cannon was not around for the inaugural game in 1969.
The Fremont Cannon was the brainchild of UNLV's first football coach, Bill Ireland, and it was ready for the 1970 game, a 42-30 win for the Rebels.
The teams did not play each other from 1980-1982, or in 1984, 1986 or 1988.
