Philadelphia, N.Y. — A Jefferson County woman was arrested Tuesday night after police say she set fire to an apartment building in the village of Philadelphia.
Firefighters were called around 6:38 p.m. to the fire at 72 Main St. after a nearby resident heard a smoke alarm and saw smoke coming from the back of a second-floor unit, according to a State Police news release.
After the fire was put out, investigators from Jefferson County, the state fire prevention office and State Police determined the fire had been intentionally set.
Brittney I. Empey, 32, of Philadelphia, was charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary, both felonies.
She was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and taken to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 bond or $200,
