SEATTLE — President Donald Trump’s chief envoy to Russia is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in an effort to reach a peace agreement aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump had set a self-imposed deadline for a deal by Thursday, but that appears to have slipped as negotiations continue.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine remains open to Trump’s peace plan but wants to finalize details directly with Trump at the White House.
For many Ukrainian Americans in Washington state, the discussions bring both hope and anxiety. They say the war continues to take a heavy toll—emotionally and financially—on families split between the United States and Ukraine.
