FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The city of Fresno is celebrating the arrival of a new dog but she's not just any dog.
Meet Savannah, she's a rescue and soon she will be the first ever therapy canine for the Fresno Police Department.
Savannah is undergoing specialized training to bring comfort, calm and a special connection to officers in ways that words sometimes can't.
Fresno Police chief Mindy Casto says that while Savannah's home will be at the department, the dog can really bring a smile to anyone in need of a little encouragement.
"She is 'we' though. We serve the community, she serves us. She will also be serving the community in that regard," Casto says.
