The Allegheny County Board of Elections certified the results of this month’s municipal election Monday, officially marking Mike Embrescia’s last day in local office.
Mr. Embrescia, the outgoing Republican at-large county council member, will be succeeded by Alex Rose, a former Democrat who ran as an independent and defeated Mr. Embrescia in a special election, which became the subject of a lawsuit that made its way all the way up to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
His departure will mark the first time a Republican has not held one of the two at-large seats on county council since the 15-person governing body was created a quarter century ago.
