BEAUMONT, Texas — As Thanksgiving approached, staff and volunteers at Southeast Texas nonprofit, Some Other Place spent the week preparing for their annual Thanksgiving lunch, an effort aimed at ensuring people experiencing homelessness do not feel “left out or alone” during the holiday.
The nonprofit planned to open its doors Thursday to serve nearly 400 people, providing an in-house meal for about 200 guests while delivering 170 additional meals through its Meals on Wheels program, according to staff involved in the preparations.
“It’s wonderful to serve the people that are less fortunate than us, and I love it,” said Chantel Kay, a case manager over emergency services who has also helped in the kitchen throughout the week.
