FAIRMONT, W.Va. —

Two West Virginia National Guard members wounded in a Washington D.C. shooting were in critical condition, authorities said Wednesday.

“No matter what you do, it’s always a risk, whether it's overseas or at home, it’s always a chance. It’s your call to duty,” Chris Bennett told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. Advertisement

Bennett, a former West Virginia National Guard member, said he was saddened by what happened in Washington.

"It’s like a part of your family, your brothers and sisters,” Bennett said.

According to the public affairs office for the West Virginia National Guard, the two guardsmen were shot near the Farragut Square Metro Station just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
