MONROE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Green County Humane Society rescued 55 dogs Tuesday in an emergency operation that has pushed the shelter over capacity.
The rescue brought in 29 dogs and 26 puppies, including Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Boston Terriers, Maltese and Lhasa Apsos, said Alex Rea-Kodatt, operations director for the Green County Humane Society. Rea-Kodatt said her team found the dogs in poor condition.
“Most of them were kenneled, kennels stacked on top of each other. There were multiple in the kennels. They were covered in urine, feces,” she said.
The dogs are now safe, but the facility is struggling with limited space and staff.
Rea-Kodatt said volunteers, donations and especially foster families would help the shelter.
