EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 3 Michigan State hockey rebounded from its weekend sweep at the hands of Wisconsin and beat Colgate 5-2 at Munn Ice Arena on Wednesday night.
Freshman backup goaltender Melvin Strahl made his second start of the season, saving 29/31 shots on net.
Owen West opened the Spartans’ scoring with his first goal of the season in the first period. Ryker Lee and Eric Nilson also scored in the first period before Jack Brandt found the net for Colgate to make it 3-1 at the first intermission.
Tiernan Shoudy scored in the second period to make it 4-1, and Charlie Stramel added another in the third for MSU’s 5th goal of the game on its way to a 5-1 victory.
MSU improved its season record to 10-3-0.
The series wraps up with another game at Munn on Friday at 4 p.m.
