Anyone who thinks this interstate does not need modernization has never driven I-475 between Douglas Road and the Sylvania-area split during rush hour.
Some would argue that the widening would increase traffic numbers. Traffic counts would not increase, the same number of vehicles using this route would be the same users, not more users.
Some would also argue that widening would increase air pollution. That is just wrong. If traffic numbers don’t increase, air pollution would not increase. As a matter of fact this would decrease air pollution because of avoiding congestion.

Let’s also remember that when this upgrade takes place, all north-south bridges over 475 will also be improved and upgraded. These improvements are also overdue.
