INDIANAPOLIS — In the historic Indianapolis neighborhood of Irvington, walkability is part of the charm. Now, a proposal gaining overwhelming support could add a little something extra to that evening stroll.

Forty-six communities in Indiana already have designated outdoor refreshment areas , known as DORAs. On Tuesday, the city's first DORA proposal won unanimous support from the Rules and Public Policy Committee, signaling a shift in attitude toward the “sip and stroll” culture.

"We do things differently in this neighborhood," City-County Councilor Andy Nielsen (D-District 14) said. "I'm excited for us to take that next step and show that we can lead on something like this, that we can do this right."
