Rachel Reeves grilled on manifesto pledges by Ridge

Rachel Reeves has been challenged on breaking Labour's manifesto promise following her £26 billion tax-raising Budget.

The Chancellor said she recognises that she "has asked working people to contribute a bit more" and that this means "working people will pay a bit more".

But the chancellor tells Sky News she does not believe this means that her budget has breached Labour's manifesto commitments on tax.

Sky News presenter Sophy Ridge challenged Ms Reeves on her insistance that the manifesto had not been broken.

The journaist said: "You've broken a manifesto pledge, haven't you?"

Ms Reeves said: "We were very specific in the manifesto that we wouldn't increase the rates of income tax, National Insurance or VAT." Article continues be
