The driver who was submerged in a vehicle that had entered a pond in Watertown on Monday has died, according to the Watertown Police Department.
At approximately 9:52 a.m., Nov. 24, 2025, the Watertown Police Department, Watertown Fire Rescue, Codington County Emergency Management and Codington County Search and Rescueresponded to the 200 block of Challenger Way Southeast for a report of a vehicle that had entered a pond and become fully submerged.
At approximately 10:47 a.m., the driver, later identified as Brianna Mahaffy, 41, of Watertown, was pulled from the vehicle and transported to Prairie Lakes Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Brianna died later that evening as a result of the incident.
