GUADALUPITA, N.M. —

Residents in northern New Mexico, near the Hermit's Peak-Calf Canyon fire, continue to deal with water contamination issues after heavy metals were discovered in private wells.

Kathy Sims, who has lived in the hills of Guadalupita in Mora County for 20 years, expressed her concerns about the changes in her environment since the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon fire.

"Our little slice of heaven. A lot of change from then till now," Sims said. Her family's home narrowly escaped the fire three years ago, but new problems have emerged, and she claims that promised help from FEMA has not materialized. "We've all suffered loss. And we need some help, [and] I am one of the lucky ones. I am," Sims said.
