I was mooching in the posh designer baby clothes area of Selfridges for things I'd never normally buy when the Medicine Bakery took my breath away.

Nestled in the back of the department store's ground floor, it's one of the city centre's best kept secrets, cute and cosy and lined with Christmas trees like a mystical forest clearing, a ceiling of lights and pretty indoor clouds overhead.

A mini getaway from Bullring busyness, it's never looked better than it does right now, dazzling with lights and smelling of festive specials.

Medicine is just about as Brummie as it gets, its roots planted in Digbeth's nightclub scene in the 90s before growing into a small chain of bakeries around the region, including at the Mailbox, over in Codsall and, of course, on New Street.
