John Swinney has been urged to expand free school meals provision with the extra cash the SNP Government will receive as a result of the UK Budget. ‌

All Scots pupils from primaries one - five are currently offered a free lunch when attending classes. ‌

Ross Greer, the Scottish Greens co-leader, believes the SNP Government should now commit to expanding the policy to include those in primary six and seven. ‌

It comes after Rachel Reeves used her Budget statement yesterday to announce the end of the hated two-child cap on benefits from April next year.

Swinney had previously committed to mitigating the impact of the cap in Scotland if the UK Government didn't scrap it first. Reeves' announcement means the Scottish Government will have an estimated £140m
