Chico Public Works employees on Monday and Tuesday used boom lifts to string lights around the Christmas tree in Chico City Plaza.

The lights will officially turn on during the downtown Chico tree lighting ceremony, scheduled 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at the plaza.

Christmas tree lightings at the City Plaza has been a Chico tradition since 1978, according to the Downtown Chico Business Association.
