LOUISVILLE, Ky. — What started as a mutual relationship between Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church and a former Louisville Metro Police chief has turned into a decades-long Thanksgiving tradition.
LMPD helps Pastor William Nelson and his church members deliver the food they cook to different neighborhoods across the city every year.
Nelson said over the years, they’ve gone from serving hundreds of people to thousands who rely on their good deeds.
“We’ve witnessed a lot of seniors with nothing to eat during Thanksgiving,” he said. “And many of them call us and tell us if it were not for this particular event, they would not have a Thanksgiving meal, so that means everything to us as a church.”
Police Chief Paul Humphrey said he’s been an active volunteer since he was a kid.
