Environment and Natural Resources Canada has introduced a new colour-coded system for weather alerts, launching with a band of orange and yellow across northern Ontario and central Quebec.

The system is intuitive: Yellow is introduced when hazardous weather may cause damage, disruption, or health impacts; orange is for severe weather that is likely to cause significant damage, disruption, or health impacts; red means very dangerous and possibly life-threatening weather will cause extreme damage and disruption.
