The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly made the first big signing of this offseason by landing free agent Dylan Cease on a massive seven-year, $210 million deal. Notably, it is the richest the Blue Jays have ever handed to a free agent. The previous record belonged to George Springer, who signed a six-year, $150 million deal back in 2021. Toronto wanted an ace, and they paid like a team ready to compete at the top of the American League.
Cease spent the past two seasons with the San Diego Padres. His 2025 campaign was a mixed one, finishing with a 4.55 ERA and an 8-12 record across 32 starts. Still, the Blue Jays believe his durability and strikeout ability make him a frontline arm who can anchor their rotation for years to come.
