Local nonprofit offered up free food, resources and entertainment during holiday season for 15th year in a row
Angelita Vargas was one of the many Americans affected by the removal of SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown.
Actually, she is still being affected because she has not yet had them returned and is not sure when they will.
She said it is particularly painful as Thanksgiving is now here.
But Vargas got a little help at the annual Zuri’s Circle Community Cookout and Fair Nov. 22 at Peoria Elementary School, 11501 N. 79th Ave.
The event offered free food and haircuts, community assistance, and other services to those in need.
Add in music, bounce houses, carnival style games and other activities for the kids, and it was a fun time for the whole family.
