What to know about the shooting of 2 National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.:
Two members of the West Virginia National Guard were shot in an ambush-style attack in Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon, officials said. FBI Director Kash Patel said Wednesday they were in critical condition.
The suspect, who is believed to have acted alone, has been identified by the Trump administration as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in 2021.
The CIA said Thursday that Lakanwal previously worked with the U.S. government, including the CIA, as a member of a partner force in Kandahar that ended in 2021 following the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
