President Donald Trump called the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard Members deployed to Washington, D.C. an “act of terror” and vowed the person responsible “will pay a very steep price .”
The Department of Homeland Security identified the suspect of the Wednesday shooting that left the two National Guard members in critical condition as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national who travelled to the U.S. in 2021 under “Operation Allies Welcome.” The Biden Administration program oversaw the evacuation of tens of thousands of Afghans after the U.S. withdrawal from the country.
