On Wednesday (Nov. 26), the U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued a Security Alert about armed robberies that target Americans driving on Highway 85D in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. This comes amid the chilling anti-"gringo" protests that are scaring American snowbirds away from Mexico.

Also known as the Autopista Monterrey–Nuevo Laredo, Federal Highway 85D leads directly to the international bridges connecting Mexico to Laredo, Texas. A critical section of the highway is also located in a Mexican state that is under the highest U.S. travel advisory, Level 4: Do Not Travel, due to kidnapping and crime.
