SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Thanksgiving is a day full of memories, family, food, and, of course, lots of cooking. However, it also happens to be one of the most common days when kitchen fires happen.

Firefighters are reminding families to stay alert in the kitchen and make sure they’re not distracted so they can have a wonderful meal.

Deep frying a turkey is a popular way to cook your main dish, but it’s also one of the most dangerous ways if not done correctly.

“We want to be about 15 feet away from anything combustible. We don’t want them in our garage, and we don’t want them definitely in our house,” said Fire Inspector Brandon Fey. “That turkey has to be completely thawed.
