A Birmingham road will remain closed after a sinkhole emerged during repairs.

The hole appeared as resurfacing work was underway on Springfield Road, between Melton Road and Institute Road, in Kings Heath on Wednesday (November 26).

The street was immediately closed which led to heavy congestion in the area and residents reportedly leaving their homes to direct traffic.

Councillor Izzy Knowles has said the road will remain closed until after the weekend to allow repairs.

Barriers and diversions have been put in place.
