DETROIT – On Nov. 25, the Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel heard oral arguments regarding two lawsuits filed by cannabis industry activists seeking to block a 24 percent whole cannabis tax approved in October by the Michigan legislature to fund road improvements.

The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association, representing hundreds of Michigan cannabis companies, made oral arguments seeking an injunction to stop the Michigan Treasury from assessing the tax.

The MiCIA joins legal proceedings brought against the State of Michigan and Michigan Treasury Department by the Holistic Research Group, a licensed cultivator and processor located in Harrison Township, filed a similar lawsuit and is seeking a preliminary injunction to block implementation of the tax while the legal case plays ou
