The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, one of the largest parades in the world, has been a yearly Thanksgiving staple in American households since it began in 1924.
The parade has been held every year except 1942, 1943 and 1944 because of World War II, according to Macy's , when materials that would have been used in the celebration, including rubber, were dedicated to the war.
