The aviation authority in Venezuela confirmed on Wednesday, November 26, that it had banned six airlines as punishment for what it called "joining the actions of state terrorism promoted by the United States government."

This sweeping airline ban comes after the carriers heeded the warning of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), suspending their flights to Venezuela in response. It also came following the U.S. government's warship deployment just off Venezuela for what officials said is a counter-narcotics operation.

According to the Venezuelan Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (AVAVIT), the six airlines' flight suspensions and consequential flight bans are thought to have impacted over 8,000 passengers on at least 40 different flights so far.
