Three years after her son’s murder, Yvonne Fields gathered with her family this Thanksgiving, marking her first holiday celebration since the tragic loss of her youngest child, Rashaud Fields.
“I have been separated from the family as in just grieving. Wouldn’t go out, wouldn’t do anything,” Fields said. But this year, something changed. “I kinda just got up, you know, took upon myself and say, ‘Hey, I’m gonna come this time.’”
Rashaud Fields was just 18 years old when he was shot and killed on May 23, 2022, mere hours after his high school graduation. The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. in the 10700 block of Pine Estates Road. Despite being rushed to the hospital by Jacksonville Fire Rescue, where medical staff attempted life-saving measures, Fields did not survive. His killer remains
