When one traveled down Main Street Wednesday morning, one couldn’t help but notice all of the smoke and aromas that filled the air.
For the 35th year, the Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS) conducted its annual Turkey Smoking event at the All-Saints Episcopal Church pits. Meanwhile, later in the day, a bake sale was conducted at the MATS Shelter on West Main Street to help supply funding for the Warming Station that opens when temperatures fall below 32 degrees.
MATS sold 220 hams and 275 turkeys in this year’s drive to the community.
Students from Grainger High School and Lakeway Christian School, as well as the East Ridge Middle School Beta Club have been helping with the event for the last several years. Many who have volunteered over the years have returned each year.
