Jan. 30, 1835: President Andrew Jackson attended the funeral of a congressman. The attacker's pistols failed to fire so he was apprehended, stood trial, was found insane and spent the rest of his life a mental institution.

April 15, 1865: President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. It was discovered to be a plot by the Confederates to take out the vice president, secretary of state and secretary of war.
