Kyle Raftis wasn’t neccesarily big-name hunting.

But when word spread that the Peterborough Petes were taking calls on 2026 NHL Draft prospect Colin Fitzgerald — the third-overall pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection — the Soo Greyhounds general manager didn’t sit on his hands.

“You’re always talking once you get into November,” Raftis told The Sault Star on Thursday morning. “I wasn’t predicting a player like this, but once I caught more wind that he might be available, we started pushing on it in the last couple weeks, and it came together pretty quickly.”

On Thursday morning, the Soo Greyhounds sent six draft picks — only one of which originally belonged to them — in exchange for the 6-foot-3, 211-pound Peterborough native.
