ENCINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Two suspects were taken into custody Thursday morning after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase through Encino and ditching a car in the Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the driver and passenger in a Honda Civic were heading southbound on the 101 Freeway in Tarzana when the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Thanksgiving Day traffic was light on the freeway before the driver exited at Balboa Boulevard.

The suspect turned onto Burbank Boulevard and crossed over into oncoming lanes at Woodley Avenue. The car then turned off of the street and onto an unpaved road in the recreation area.
