Florida Sen. Rick Scott announced on social media Thursday that an attempted swatting incident happened at his family home in Naples.
According to Scott, he received a call from law enforcement Thursday morning about the attempt. Swatting is when a false emergency report is made to authorities, meant to trigger a large law enforcement response and presence at that specific place.
Scott said he was not home when it happened and that everyone is safe.
According to the Naples Police Department, an attempted swatting email was received before 1 a.m. on Thursday. The police were able to get in contact with the Scott family and confirmed they were safe.
Out of precaution, officers conducted a security sweep of the family's home and confirmed everything was okay.
