Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn says problems with the elevators at the Ruth Barkley Apartments in the South End stranded residents in the building, forcing some to cancel their holiday plans.

"They were supposed to be going out with their families for Thanksgiving dinner and now those plans are cancelled because of the elevator breakdown and they're not able to leave their apartments," Flynn said in a video posted to his Facebook page.

The city councilor says he was contacted by several upset seniors and people with disabilities who said they were stranded in the apartment complex, which is run by the Boston Housing Authority (BHA).

Flynn says the apartments have a history of elevator problems.
