TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Thanksgiving marks the top day of the year for home-cooking fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
However, Tucson firefighters are facing a challenge with several vehicles out of service.
Assistant Fire Chief Lewis Harris of the Tucson Fire Department reported that six fire vehicles are shut down for the holiday due to staffing issues.
"In total, ten Tucson Fire vehicles were out of service at some point today," Harris said. "Four were down all morning but are now back in service."
The department usually relies on overtime to fill staffing gaps, but fewer firefighters are volunteering to work on holidays this year.
