BOISE, Idaho — About 6,000 people kicked off Thanksgiving Day by running a 5K through the streets of downtown Boise on Thursday, marking the 15th anniversary of the annual Turkey Day race .

"Every year there's just more and more people," said runner Josie Yovichin. "It's just like, it's bigger and bigger. So it's like, awesome to see the show out from Boise."

Race organizers said the growth reflects strong community support for the event, which has become a Thanksgiving tradition for many Treasure Valley residents.

"Turkey Day 5K is a celebration of the community, which Thanksgiving is all about, family and friends," said race director Kevin Smith.
