AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - A coalition of area nonprofits is working to give foster children new bicycles for the holidays.

The ‘ Bikes for Kids ’ campaign started in June, and its mission is to collect and donate up to 400 new bicycles.

Officials say the campaign has raised nearly $19,000 to purchase the remaining bicycles, and organizers are working with Toys for Tots to ensure each child receives the right size bike without any families being counted twice.

Several local organizations are helping make that possible

The Leathernecks Confederation MC , Amarillo Angels , Heart Gallery of the Panhandle Plains and Boom Adventures are among the partners driving the effort.

Each group plays a role in gathering donations and spreading the word throughout the community.
