The memorandum of understanding between Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney to build a new oil pipeline from Alberta to B.C., and from there to Asian markets via oil tankers, will be a test of whether Canada is a serious country.
Whether provinces and the federal government can work together on a true nation-building project — as this one is — for the good of all Canadians.
We support the MOU, which is a welcome change from the years of the federal government warring against Alberta on the issue of fossil fuels.
The test now will be whether the pipeline ever becomes a reality, delivering one million barrels of oil a day to the west coast, with construction beginning as early as 2029, if all goes well.
