SANDPOINT, Idaho — Schweitzer Mountain Resort will not open this weekend despite receiving fresh snowfall Monday, resort officials announced.

The mountain received a dusting of snow and crews fired up snowmaking machines overnight, but conditions are not yet sufficient for safe skiing operations.

"At this point, we know we won't be able to open this weekend," resort officials said. "We're keeping a close eye on the forecast and working hard to get the mountain ready as soon as possible."

The delayed opening affects season pass holders and visitors planning early season skiing trips.

"As soon as we have an opening date, we'll share it with you," officials said.
