WASHINGTON — Newly released body camera footage capturing the fatal police shooting of 25 -year-old David Childs in Northeast has renewed grief and intensified calls for accountability from his family, who say the video raises more questions than answers.
The nearly 10-minute recording , made public Monday, shows the moments leading up to and after the shooting in the Deanwood neighborhood, where police say officers were patrolling amid concerns about recent gunfire. Childs, one of three Black men who died in encounters with D.C. police in less than a week this month, was stopped after an officer believed he had a gun.
In the footage, an officer chases Childs, who allegedly took off on foot, down a residential block.
