St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation is officially kicking off Lights of Hope Thursday evening, marking the 28th year of the iconic display.

Foundation president and CEO Sheila Biggers says the event is one of the organization’s most important annual fundraisers, with proceeds going toward research, equipment, and talent.

It also aims to bring comfort and encouragement to those patients in the hospital who may be feeling frightened and alone, especially during the holiday season, Biggers says.

“This event shows them that the community is rooting for them, right outside their windows,” Biggers said.

The foundation’s goal this year is $3.7 million, which would match last year’s campaign.
