Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is when holiday shopping kicks into high gear. Stores across Southern Utah, from St. George to Cedar City, open early with deep discounts that draw eager crowds. But while the deals may be hot, safety should always come first.

The term “Black Friday” comes from the accounting tradition of using black ink to record profits and red ink for losses. For many retailers, this day marks a shift from red to black, making it one of the most profitable days of the year.

Unfortunately, Black Friday can also bring risks. Crowded parking lots, distracted drivers and overwhelmed shoppers increase the probability of crashes and crime.

While Southern Utah remains one of the safest regions in the West, vigilance is key, especially during high-traffic events.
