OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Volunteers served free hot meals and sweet treats Thursday at a pop-up Thanksgiving event in North Omaha.
It provided food for those in need while offering healing for those serving.
Karen Parente volunteered at the event to honor her father, an Air Force veteran who died in May. This marked her first Thanksgiving without both parents.
“My father was very community service oriented, so I’m doing this to honor him,” Parente said.
Parente said she chose to volunteer rather than spend the holiday alone.
“So I thought, you know, I could either stay at home by myself and feel sorry for myself or I can do something good in the community,” Parente said.
Amanda Baker, who recently moved to Omaha from Nevada, learned about the event on Facebook. She said the free meal mad
